Osun police arrest herbalist and three others for killing woman for money ritual

The Osun State Police Command has nabbed four suspects accused of teaming up to murder a 45-year-old woman for a money-making ritual in Ibadan, Oyo State.

SP Yemisi Opalola, the command's spokesperson, revealed this during the suspects' parade in Osogbo on Friday, April 19, 2024.

Opalola explained that the arrests stemmed from a report filed by the woman's son at the Apomu Police Division in Osun, stating that his mother, Usman Aminat, went missing after leaving home to visit Onifade Oyekanmi in Iyana Ajia, Ibadan.

According to Opalola, the son noted that his mother's phones were turned off, and her whereabouts remained unknown since her departure, suspecting Oyekanmi, an herbalist, of involvement.

Oyekanmi was apprehended, and the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Osogbo, for further inquiry.

Subsequent confessions by Oyekanmi led to the arrest of three others, who all admitted to conspiring to use the victim for money rituals.

Searches at the suspects' residences unearthed three bottles containing suspected burnt human parts, two cutlasses, a large black clay pot, and black soaps.

A female neighbor, aiding one of the suspects in hiding his share of the substance, was also arrested but later released on bail due to nursing a four-month-old baby.

The suspects disclosed how they strangled the victim at Oyekanmi's house, dismembered her body, and mixed her intestines with those of animals and herbs in a clay pot, burning them to powder and dividing the spoils among themselves.

Additionally, Oyekanmi admitted to destroying the victim's cell phones after the crime to avoid detection.

Following the investigation's completion, the suspects will face charges in court. Opalola urged residents to promptly report suspicious activities to the police for effective crime prevention.
